Over the last three years, I’ve had the opportunity to guide seven moose hunts with McMillan River Adventures. Each season brought its own adventure, and it’s been one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The terrain out there is something else - huge, wild, and untouched. We spent our days traveling through some of the most remote parts of the Yukon, and it never got old. The fishing was incredible too, grayling in the Tay River, northern pike hiding in just about every bay, and Kalzas Lake was loaded with monster pike and lake trout. I’ll never forget seeing a few big grizzlies right on the lake’s edge. We were lucky enough to tag out on most hunts I guided. There were lots of moose around, but we always held out for the big ones, mature bulls with antlers carrying world-class mass, often over 60 inches wide. One season, I even got to help build a brand-new outpost, which was a great experience on its own. Being out there, part of the land and the work that goes into it, it’s something I’ll always appreciate. The folks at McMillan River Adventures genuinely care about what they do, and it shows. I’m grateful I got to be a part of it.

I have had the pleasure of guiding for MacMillan River Adventures now for 7 years. To be able to share my lifetime passion of moose hunting with our clients is a privilege and I sometimes wonder if selfishly, I get more out of it than our clients do. The relationships I have made with our hunting clients, my fellow guides, the pilots that fly us in, the outfitters, and our ownership group is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I never imagined that guiding a hunter to a moose of his/her dreams would be so satisfying. I had always heard stories of the draw of the Yukon, and I can honestly say that the minute I landed on a remote river in our concession, my heart found its home – and has never left. Until you experience it for yourself, it is impossible to imagine the adrenaline rush you get when the stillness of the air is broken with a bull grunt, a cow moan, or a wolf howl. Every hunt is an adventure, but there’s something special about guiding for Stone sheep. It's amazing to help hunters achieve something they’ve dreamed about for years.

Taking an experienced hunter out for a trophy Yukon moose is always a thrill. I love seeing their excitement when we spot a big bull, it’s just as rewarding for me as it is for them.

Guiding a grizzly bear hunt is always intense. The adrenaline, the strategy, and the respect for such a powerful animal is unforgettable every time. It truly is a great experience.

Guiding a wolf hunt is a unique challenge. Wolves are smart and elusive, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. Watching a hunter succeed after the effort we put in is an incredible experience.

As a guide at MacMillan River Adventures for three years, I’ve witnessed incredible transformations.
