MacMillan River Adventures is known as the #1 Yukon moose bowhunting outfitter and we typically take more Yukon moose bowhunters per season than all the other Yukon outfitters combined.
Bowhunting Yukon Moose
We hold the Pope & Young #1 world record ranking Alaska/Yukon moose. Some other interesting facts from a recent Pope & Young record book:
- 54% of the total recorded Yukon moose bow harvests were with in the MacMillan River outfitting area
- 69% of the Yukon bow harvested moose scoring over 200” were taken from the MacMillan River outfitting area
- 76% of the Yukon bow harvested bull moose in the top 100 recordings were taken in the MacMillan River outfitting area
The heavy timber cover found at the lower elevations where the majority of the rut occurs is one important factor to our bowhunting client’s success. The bulls are living in this heavy cover and travelling in this cover in search of cows to breed; they are comfortable here. We use this cover to our advantage to get within bow range. Moose have a tremendous sense of hearing and somehow are able to pinpoint the location of a moose call amazing well. Similar to a bull elk they will get within a certain distance of where that call was coming from then “lock up” expecting to make visual contact. The heavy timber cover minimizes that visual contact distance and lets us get closer than you could in the more wide-open subalpine terrain above timberline.
The outfitter and guides at MacMillan River Adventures understand bowhunting and accept the challenges and frustrations that come with bowhunting.
