Hunting Area

We hunt in over 20 established horse and boat camps.

The MacMillan River

MacMillan River Adventures Yukon Outfitter Concession #8 lies in the MacMillan River watershed basin. The mix of heavy timber and water in the lower elevations and the scattered higher elevation mountain regions creates ideal moose habitat, for that reason we enjoy some of the highest moose population densities in the Yukon. “More moose means more bigger moose!”

The abundance of lakes and rivers in the concession enables us to have several boat camp locations allowing us to spread our moose hunting pressure out pretty evenly over the hunting area and never overharvest in any particular area. This also enables hunters to enjoy a more private unshared hunting experience.

The scattered mountain terrain enables us to also spread our sheep hunting pressure over several different bands of sheep. Some of this higher elevation terrain is accessed with the use of horses for both the sheep and moose hunts; some of the areas are hunted for sheep by back pack only. The highest elevation in the concession is 7000′. Most of the sheep hunting is done between 4500′ to 6000′. Again the multiple sheep hunting locations allow us to spread our hunting pressure out over several areas and permit hunters to experience fresh areas that have had no recent hunting pressure.

Yukon outfitters are privileged to enjoy hunting concessions that are not shared by other outfitters; we each have our own hunting area with no overlapping boundaries. MacMillan River Adventures is also fortunate to have one of the few Yukon hunting areas that has no road access on the boundary or into the concession. This does make operations a challenge as all our materials, supplies, clients and guides have to be flown in and out but this lack of access also creates a better hunting experience for the client.
